Paint your own borders? Who would have thought something previously done by professionals could be done at home.
While the concept paint your own rims has been around a few years ago, many questions pop up how to do it and I thought I would share my experiences with painting my rims Stock Integra. I have read many examples of how to do this, but my first time trying this year was when I decided to refinish my winter tires. I was very please with the result.
First, what the hell is that paint your rims? The painting, of course:) This is where Duplicolor comes in with his painting the wheel. They offer paint colors to match your style coming in white, bronze, silver and bronze classic also. I decided to do mine in gunmetal leaving the lips of the Mexican style elegant appearance. So here are the options:
So I chose the color, bought the painting and are semi-ready. First, you need to sand your tires. Why? This gives the surface a rough texture so the paint has something to adhere. Reference item to hone their edges in the form of sanding wheel works. The only difference is the distance he wants to go. In my case, winter tires being painted decided not go through the process of stripping the paint on the edges completely. Simply sanding the surface with 300 grit sandpaper ensuring to make everything from sand alike. This gives the rough surface required for the paint to adhere, and the time your tire had no damage that should be good enough.
Its edges are sandy, you has its paint and are now ready. First, make sure you clean all sanding dust from the edges and ensure a totally clean surface so the paint stick and not flake off after his first drive out with your newly painted rims! Here are my rims washed and ready to dry completely before painting:
My rims are masked off with newspaper and tape. Of course, you want to do this so they do not turn your tires into the color that is painting. I do not want Gunmetal painted wheels. Also, if you look close enough, you'll know that the lip has been masked off well. Therefore, carefully applied the tape on the lips to protect it from being painted as well. Besides, you know how little air pump in the mask to be that way unless you want to have a color change as well:)
The edges are dry, have been hidden away from what does not want to paint and is now ready. Put some newspaper on the soil and place on top edge of the paper. You do not want to paint the concrete underneath the rim to keep it clean with newspaper.
Now apply your primer. Let the paint dry well and next day admire your work and results.
